listening while running

Runners can be broken down into two categories: those who listen to music while running and those who don't. I've been both at one point or another, though, currently, I'm in the camp of Headphones On.

My reason being this. If there is a communicative quality to music, I mean if recorded sound can actually connect with you in the same way a human being can, then my relationship with music is at its most transparent when my body is in motion; when I am also a metronome, two legs and lungs, a pumping heart, plugged back into an audio device playing songs to me. The beauty of running while listening to music is how often I can actually feel myself turn into the music.

So here are ten tracks I enjoyed listening to while running through 2010. Some came out this year, some slightly before, still others released thirty years before iPods even existed.

(Note: This idea was somewhat inspired by Matt Bell. Thanks, Matt.)
